Greenville Technical College doesn't offer students the traditional dorm experience. Students typically live in on-campus managed apartments or off-campus. Finding off-campus housing near Greenville Technical College can make sense if you're a more experienced student, since it gives you more freedom and lets you get to know the area surrounding the school a bit better.
Finding a Place
The sooner you start looking for a place to live near Greenville Tech, the better. Start your search by making a list of your must-haves in an apartment in order to narrow down your search. For example, do you need a place that's pet-friendly and will let you bring your dog or cat along? You might also want a place with on-site laundry facilities, or even better, in-unit laundry. Other amenities to think about include a pool, a fitness center, and free Internet access. Start making appointments to look at available apartments as soon as possible. When lots of students are out looking, places tend to go quickly.
Finding a Roommate
Getting a roommate can make the transition to living off-campus a bit easier. You'll have someone to split the bills with and someone to talk to. If you don't already know who you'd like to live with, you can conduct a search on a roommate listing site such as Craigslist.
Be as honest as you can be in your listing. If you don't want a loud roommate, say so. If you're a strict vegetarian and can't bear to live with someone who will eat or prepare meat at home, say that, too. You’ll also want to meet your future roommate before you agree to live together. You don't have to be instant best friends, but you should click on some level.
Getting to Campus
The best way to get to campus from anywhere in Greenville is to drive, as public transit options in the area are fairly limited. To park on campus, you'll need to register your car and get a commuter student decal. The decal is good for the academic year and lets you park in designated areas on campus.
You're on your own as far as dining goes at Greenville Tech. There's no meal plan or on-campus dining hall. That means you'll want to get to know the grocery stores and affordable restaurants in the area. Publix is one nearby large supermarket. The store has all the basics you need to prepare quick and affordable meals at your apartment. It also has a pharmacy, which makes filling any prescriptions you have convenient.
Another shopping option in the area is Whole Foods, which specializes in organic and natural foods. If you follow a special diet, such as gluten-free or vegan, you might have more luck shopping at Whole Foods than any other supermarket in the area. As an added benefit, the grocery store has an ample prepared foods section, so you can pick up a quick meal on your way to class or after a tough day of studying.
